AAMI WAFL Premiership season Round 23

from WAFL - 2:59pm Monday August 30th, 2010

EAST Perth continued its massive turnaround this season to beat Claremont on Saturday to book a finals berth as Subiaco, Swan Districts and West Perth also record final round WAFL victories. East Perth had to beat Claremont to make the finals and overcame some inaccurate kicking to do so with a 12.23 (95) to 11.13 (79) victory at Medibank Stadium. That made for a disappointing day for West Perth, who beat Perth 16.16 (112) to 14.3 (87), but missed out on finals with the Royals' win. Subiaco also beat South Fremantle 33.9 (207) to 21.18 (144) in a massively high scoring contest at Fremantle Oval and Swan Districts thrashed Peel 22.25 (157) to 7.5 (47).

AAMI WAFL Premiership Season Round 23 Preview

from WAFL - 1:55pm Friday August 27th, 2010

EAST Perth and West Perth fight over fourth spot and a finals appearance in the last round of the WAFL on Saturday while last year's grand finalists do battle at Fremantle Oval and Swan Districts look to tune up for the second semi-final against Peel. East Perth currently holds fourth spot on the ladder and West Perth is fifth meaning that a Royals upset win over Claremont will guarantee them a finals appearance, however, a loss to the Tigers, who have lost just once this year, will open the door for the Falcons if they can beat Perth. The Royals will host Claremont at Medibank Stadium and the Falcons take on Perth at Arena Joondalup while South Fremantle plays Subiaco at Fremantle Oval and Swan Districts takes on Peel at Steel Blue Oval.

Family success inspires McGrath all the way to 200

from WAFL - 1:25pm Wednesday August 25th, 2010

SOUTH Fremantle captain Toby McGrath has used his brothers as inspiration as he's watched them play AFL football, but his outstanding WAFL career has also spurred them on and now he adds 200 games to his career as an all-time great at the famous port club. While older brother Cory played 50 matches with Essendon and 28 with Carlton, and younger brother Ash is still an outstanding contributor to the Brisbane Lions having played 154 games including a premiership, Toby's career at South Fremantle is nothing to be sneezed at. McGrath made his debut back in 1998 and played in the 1999 and 2001 losing grand finals to West Perth and East Perth before being picked up by Essendon where he joined Cory.

from WAFL - 4:29pm Thursday August 19th, 2010

STAR West Perth forward Brent LeCras reaches his 100th WAFL match with the Falcons this Saturday in the double-header at Steel Blue Oval and the dual Simpson Medallist couldn’t be more proud to now end his career right where it started. LeCras burst onto the WAFL scene in 2002, had a brilliant 2003 season culminating in a best on ground performance in the grand final that earned him three years in the AFL. After a year then with the Port Adelaide Magpies, he was quick to return home to WA in 2008 to set up his life with wife Lauren, who was pregnant with the couple's son Koby, and now LeCras is tremendously proud to book his name on the No. 20 locker at West Perth.

Prior stepping up big for Royals

from WAFL - 5:57pm Tuesday August 10th, 2010

EAST Perth forward Adam Prior is getting better all the time in his first season in the WAFL and he's now hoping the 2010 campaign ends in finals action if the Royals can overcome Subiaco and Claremont after this week's bye. Prior arrived at East Perth in January from the Wodonga Raiders in country Victoria and now that he has found his feet at the highest level he's ever played at he is now the Royals' best key forward option with Andrew Merrington and Tim Noakes injured, and Ben McKinley with West Coast. Prior is now the Royals' leading goal kicker this season with 35 goals and that included four in last Saturday's terrific 14-point win over West Perth that took East Perth into fourth spot on the ladder.
